{recipes} Christmas Morning Baked French Toast

I know, I know, wrong holiday. It's just that this Christmas Morning Baked French Toast is perfect for Easter as well.

Prepare it the night before, stick it in the fridge overnight, throw it in the oven Easter morning, smell its sweet aroma baking while you hunt for Easter baskets, then sit down, as a family, and enjoy. After your meal is finished, there's very little clean up before you have to rush out the door and get to Church. :)

This french toast has been the traditional Christmas and Easter breakfast in my family for years.

My favorite part is that it makes its own, scrumptious syrup. Once you scoop your slice(s) out, you'll find lots of sweet, apple-y syrup to drizzle over top.

This recipe yields approximately 4 servings but can be easily doubled.

---------------------------------

{Christmas Morning Baked French Toast}

fresh french bread, sliced 1/2 inch thick
1 stick of butter
1 c. brown sugar
4-6 medium macintosh apples, peeled & sliced 1/4 inch thick
5 eggs
1 1/2 c. milk
1 1/2 t. vanilla

Melt butter in pan. Add sugar and mix together. Add apple slices. Cover mixture with bread, placing slices tightly together. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, and vanilla. Pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, uncover and bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees. Top should be golden brown.

{enjoy!}

  6. That sounds delicious! I could totally veganize it too for my family. I love make-ahead things like that. There's an orange marmalade one I've made that's good too.

    We usually have monkey bread or cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning.
