Who needs Birthday Cake when you can have Birthday Pie?
{weather outside:}
Warm, a little breezy, mostly cloudy and 80's. Quite pleasant.
{making me happy:}
Just thinking about the fun day we had yesterday, celebrating my sister's birthday: tea, fabric shopping, Mexican food, coconut wine, peach pie, presents, and a chick flick! Just hope she had as much fun celebrating her big day as I did! ;)

{around my home:}
My three boys are napping, the house is tidy, a warm breeze is coming in through the open windows and I am sitting at the kitchen table drinking a cup of tea.
{today's to-do list:}
~ mop floors

On the Banks of Plum Creek by Laura Ingalls Wilder (with four-year-old)
{in my craft basket:}
Nothing at the moment because I'm being indecisive as far as fabrics...
{looking forward to:}
My husband coming home from work. I didn't think it was possible at the time but, I miss him now, almost five years into our marriage, even more than I did when I was away from him when we were dating and engaged. I cannot even imagine if his work kept him away for long periods of time or even overnight. Those wives who's husband are away often are very strong women indeed!
{on my mind:}
Gratitude for my little sis/best friend. Birthdays always cause me to stop and reflect on the presence of that person in my life. Seriously, God knows what he's doing. Although she's eight years younger than me, we have been the best of friends since I moved back to my family's home to attend nursing school at twenty-three. (She has always been beyond mature and maybe I was a bit immature!? ;) Of course we were always close but since the passing of my mom, (my other best friend) we have grown even closer and I am certain that God knew we would need each other especially once He took our mom from us. We were both very much Mama's girls whereas our older sister is much more independent. I know my little sister can truly empathize with the pain in my heart that just never goes away. As we celebrated her birthday yesterday, I realized how incredibly grateful I am that my parents were open to life, whatever God's timing may be. When my mom announced that she was expecting again those twenty-some years ago many asked if this baby was an oops baby or a mistake. To them she proudly announced that this baby was a miracle and I wholeheartedly agree. :)
{verse:}
"cheribum and seraphim falling down before thee, who was and is and evermore shall be."
These two lines from the second verse of Holy Holy Holy gave me goosebumps when we sang it at Mass this weekend. What an awesome God we have. I look forward to the day when I can be among them, falling down in worship before Him and love to picture my mom there right now.

Okay, you had me at the picture of that wonderful peach pie! :) Great menu plan too. Have a blessed week.
ReplyDeleteRenee' My HHM post
What a beautiful reflection about your sister! What a blessing. And that peach pie looks AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteGirl, I would much rather have a piece of birthday pie!!! And husbands are wonderful. We've been married 9 years and I miss him now more than I did when we were dating/engaged/newlyweds.
ReplyDeleteYour peach pie looks wonderful...I am a pie girl. Coconut wine soi ds interesting...what kind is it?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week!
I want to celebrate my bday with your family!! That sounded so yummy (that pie looks so good!) and sounds like a perfect day to me!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree about the hubby thing. We have been married for almost 20 years and together for almost 28! and he's still my best friend and I hate when he has to go for work now and then and would not do well if he were gone a lot. I think of my SIL as my brother - being in the military - used to be gone for deployments for months at a time. So hard!
I loved all you shared about your sis and mom and it brought tears to my eyes. I'm so happy you're close with her and by sharing your love that way your Mom is forever a presence. And I love that scriptural inspiration too! Blessings to you my Dear. xo
Birthday pie instead of cake is my favorite! My mom used to always make me a coconut meringue pie on my birthday, reading your post made me miss that. Hope you have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteMy husband has traveled a lot with work so I understand that... always nice to have them back home. :-) So great you have the time with your sister, my sister and I are 7 years apart and don't live close by... makes it tough some days. Cherish the moments....
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Jill
Oh, the birthday pie! Yum. My husband would concur.
ReplyDeleteMe and my birthday buddy both had peach pie as our birthday dessert ;) So fun
ReplyDeleteHow funny! You both have good taste! :)
