Laying in bed last night, counting my blessings, I realized I had even more than usual to thank the Lord for that day.
Nothing out of the ordinary: just the simple pleasures that I try to stop and notice when a sunny June day is combined with the innocent wonder of little boys.
-----
The day was off to a good start from the moment I opened my eyes to discover a happy, cooing baby beside me. Between his sweet smiles along the way and the gorgeous sunrise there was an extra jump to my step during our early morning jog together.
The usual morning hustle and bustle had a much more peaceful rhythm to it with my sister visiting for the day and generously offering an extra set of hands to hold, teach and love my boys right alongside me. While my oldest and I did a reading lesson together, she held my middle guy, the boy who just loves to cuddle, on her lap and went over colors and shapes with him. And so that I could get some housework and cooking done without little ones underfoot, she brought the boys outside to play in the bright sunshine all morning long.
With a couple loads of laundry folded and put away and a double batch of granola cooling on the counter, my baby and I joined the others outside for some fun before naps. We introduced the boys to 'Duck Duck Goose.' They loved it, even if they didn't entirely grasp the concept. ;) To calm them down a bit before naps, we played a 'Go Fish.'
Once it was time for the boys' naps my sister was kind enough to rock my littlest to sleep so that I could get some much needed shut eye myself. Even ten minutes in dreamland makes such a difference! Three boys sleeping at once meant she and I could enjoy a cup of tea and some uninterrupted chit-chat together before it was time for her to head home.
Play dough kept my boys happy after naps while I prepared dinner. Storybooks fresh from the library gave us some cuddling time while I fed my littlest. And a stroll around the block brought us back home just in time to greet my husband as he pulled into the driveway. After chili and cornbread for dinner together, we loaded the strollers with babies, buckets, and boots and walked to the creek in search of tadpoles. We didn't find any but the prospect of creamsicle pops on the front porch kept all our spirits bright.
The perfect June day ended delightfully with three freshly bathed, sweet smelling boys piled on my lap and snuggled up beside me for bedtime stories, cuddles and prayers.
So many simple pleasures to thank the Lord for.
So enjoyed this most special day with you...
