Waiting

Because of early deliveries in the past and irregular cycles due to breast feeding, it's hard to predict exactly when my babies will arrive. Therefore, our family has pretty much been on baby watch for the past month. Rather than grow impatient the longer the baby waits to make its appearance, I try to look at each day as borrowed time that I can use to prepare.

Our little family is about to undergo a big change. So with that in mind, this is what our family of four has been up to as we eagerly await the day we become a family of five:

-----

The boys have loved helping me set up the nursery for the new baby. Such special memories I now have of them watching me prepare onsies, sleepers, blankets, and bedding all while wanting to hear stories about when they were 'little tiny babies.'

The boys and I do a lot of baking together, especially in the winter so, in anticipation of some time off my feet after baby's arrival, I tried to stock my freezer with some of our family's usuals. That means a few different types of cookies, sweet and savory breads, and our favorite granola.

My freezer is also stocked full with at least a week's worth of dinners and nearly every day that passes I add another. So far I've made Stuffed Pepper Soup, Chili, and Meatloaf. Time permitting I would like to add Tomato Sauce, Meatballs and Marinated Chicken Breasts to the list.

I know it's such a simple thing but with all the craziness of a new baby in the home, little events like Family Game Night can be easily neglected for a time. With the delay of baby's arrival, we have taken full advantage and played quite a few rounds of board games on nights when my husband is home from work early enough.

I am thrilled that I was able to finish all the pressing sewing projects on my list before baby's arrival. The baby blanket and the living room curtain were both practical and fun projects that I was really determined to accomplish... and did!

I have been making an extra effort to fit in playtime with my boys while the baby is still in my tummy and not yet in my arms. Our days have been filled with dinosaurs, Little People, blocks, books, cars, magazines... and I am cherishing every moment of it. Along those lines, I've also been making an extra effort to spend special one-on-one time with each of my boys. For my older son that usually means coming with me to my prenatal appointments and running errands. For my younger son that usually means reading a stack of his favorite books or just cuddling.

I absolutely love being pregnant. There is nothing like knowing you are growing a new soul and feeling it move around inside of you. Every day that this baby remains inside of me is another day that I get to experience such a miracle.

And last, but certainly not least, I nary neglect my afternoon nap! We are all enjoying our sleep while it lasts. ;)

  3. You look much more prepared than I was! I always think freezer meals are a genius idea, but never get around to actually doing them.
